Crusader Depth Leads to Win at Puma Invitational

Valparaiso's depth paid off on Saturday afternoon as the Crusaders won the Puma Invitational by 70 points over runner-up St. Joseph's (Ind.) in Rensselaer, Ind.

The Crusaders tallied 288 points in the meet, but won just five individual events. Valpo scored in virtually every event though, taking as many as five or six spots in some competitions.

On the track the Brown and Gold notched four victories. Wesley Kosko (Emporia, Kan./Emporia H.S.) was first in the 100m dash with a time of 11.44 seconds, while Adam Wierciak (Ottawa, Ill./Marquette H.S.) won the 400m hurdles in 56.83 seconds.

Kyle Jones (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.) took home top honors in the 800m run with a time of 2:04.68, while Matt Blume (Logansport, Ind./Pioneer H.S.) crossed the finish line first in the 1500m run, doing so in 4:15.03.

On the infield, Todd Goodrick (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester H.S.) posted a win in the shot put with a toss of 46'4 ¾".

Valpo will compete in the Butler Twilight Invitational in Indianapolis on Friday and Saturday evenings.
