Crusader Men Finish Fifth at Mid-Con Championships

Valparaiso finished in fifth place at the Mid-Continent Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships which concluded Saturday in Kansas City, Mo.

The Crusaders finished with 52 points, five more than sixth place Chicago State. Southern Utah was crowed the meet champion with 243 points followed by Western Illinois with 203 and Oral Roberts with 168. UMKC finished fourth with 93 points.

Valpo had three individuals score for the Brown and Gold in the discus on the final day of competition. Bryan Bell (Bellevue, Neb./East H.S.) finished fourth with a toss of 152'8" while Steve Bartholomew (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township H.S.) was fifth with a mark of 151'6". Bryan Bandy (Barrington, Ill./Barrington H.S.) placed seventh with a heave of 142'9".

Also on the infield, David Kranich (Seattle, Wash./Lutheran H.S.) finished 11th in the triple jump with a leap of 37'10 ¾".

On the track, Jason Douthett (Highland, Ind./Highland H.S.) led the way in the 1,500m with an eighth place finish with a time of 4:12.84. He was also Valpo's top finisher in the 800m, placing 17th with a time of 2:05.86.

Bandy also scored in the hurdles for the Crusaders in addition to the discus. The junior placed eighth in the 110m event with a time of 16.01 seconds.

Adam Piaskowy (Crete, Ill./Crete-Monee H.S.) led Valpo's 5,000m contingent with an 11th place finish in a time of 16:03.70.

Valpo finished fifth in both relays on the afternoon as well. The 4x100m relay of Wesley Kosko (Emporia, Kan./Emporia H.S.), Lee, Jeff Moscinski (Rockford, Ill./Christian Life H.S.), and Mark Reddel (Melrose Park, Ill./Walther Lutheran H.S.) finished with a time of 43.93 seconds. The 4x400m relay of Zach Janush (Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick H.S.), Bandy, Moscinski, and Douthett crossed the line in 3:34.20.
