The Valparaiso men’s track and field team finished their first meet of the outdoor season on Friday at the USF Invitational in Tampa, Fla.
Senior Jeremy Getz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Harrison) placed first in the javelin his first meet of the year with a toss of 55.75m/182-11, out throwing the field by over 25 feet.
Colton Hill (Knox, Ind./Knox) and Montell Hall (Waukegan, Ill./Waugegan) finished seventh and eighth in the long jump, with personal best leaps of 6.16m/20-2.5 and 6.12m/20-1, respectively. Hall also finished seventh in the triple jump as well with a mark of 12.20m/40-5.5.
In the discus, Chris Sosnowski (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield Central) placed fourth with a personal best toss 43.03m/141-02 on his final attempt. Jacob Smutz (West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) finished in sixth place with his mark of 41.52m/136-03. Smutz would also take eighth in the javelin with his heave of 38.29m/125-07.
Ryan Shea (Tampa, Fla./Wiregrass Ranch) recorded personal bests in the 100 meter (11.41) and the 200 meter dashes (23.77) in his hometown.
James Sampson (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) recorded a personal best in the 200m, clocking in at 23.01.
Kurtis Slenk (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) recorded personal bests in the 400m (52.52) and 200 (23.62).
Valpo returns to the track on April 21 for the Bulldog Opener in Indianapolis.
