Ignacio Veloz Bonilla (San Juan, P.R. / American Military Academy) shattered the Valparaiso University track & field program record in the outdoor 800-meter run on Saturday at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
The fifth-year senior achieved his third school record of the 2023 track & field season, starting the outdoor campaign with an 800 time of 1:50.52, placing 17th in a highly competitive field of 143 athletes. He broke Dennis Murray’s program record of 1:50.7 that had stood since 1975.
Evan Walda (Fort Wayne, Ind. / South Side) finished the 10,000-meter run in 30:48.08 on Friday night in Raleigh. That time ranks second in program history, behind only Dominic Paoletti’s 2021 time of 30:24.58.
Valpo will compete in the Redbird Challenge hosted by Illinois State in Normal, Ill. starting on Friday, March 31.
