Three Women’s Soccer Players Earn MVC Postseason Recognition

Highlighted by the repeat selection of senior forward Cory Griffith (Lemont, Ill./Providence Catholic) to the Missouri Valley Conference First Team, three Valparaiso University women’s soccer players earned MVC postseason recognition on Thursday evening. Senior defender Kelsey Jahn (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) was a Second Team All-MVC pick, while freshman Morgen Metzger (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) earned a spot on the conference’s All-Freshman Team.

Griffith picked up the third All-Conference accolade of her career and her second straight First Team All-MVC honor after again leading the way for Valpo offensively as a senior. Griffith finished the 2018 season third in the MVC in both goals scored (eight; tied for eighth-most in a single season in program history) and points (17). She closed out her Valpo career as the program's all-time leader in game-winning goals with 12, and ranks second in program history with 29 career goals and 65 career points.

After earning Honorable Mention All-MVC honors last year as a junior, Jahn was named a Second Team All-Conference performer in 2018 to close out her career. Jahn helped fill a void in the Valpo lineup, moving from the midfield position where she had spent her first three-plus seasons to center back halfway through the year, just before the start of MVC play. Jahn helped Valpo post a team GAA of 0.95 in the 10 matches she played at center back, and got on the scoresheet herself in the season-closing win over Indiana State.

Metzger represented Valpo on the conference’s All-Freshman Team. The rookie played in a number of positions as needed this year off the bench for Valpo, seeing action in 14 of Valpo’s 16 matches, including six of seven MVC contests. She played 30 or more minutes on four occasions, highlighted by a 35-minute stint in Valpo's MVC win at Illinois State.
