The Valpo men’s and women’s swimming teams concluded their fall semester competition schedule on Friday at the Valparaiso Aquatic Complex, as the men took on Lewis in a dual meet and the women faced Butler and Lewis in a tri-meet.
How It Happened
- The men had a swimmer crack the program’s all-time best on Friday, as sophomore Luke Snider (Germantown, Tenn./Memphis University School) placed second in the 50 fly in a time of 23.82 —fifth-fastest in program history.
- Two Valpo men led the team in multiple events. Sophomore Jackson Oostman (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) paced the Beacons in three individual swims — the 50 back, which he placed second in with a time of 24.84, the 100 back (53.19) and the 200 IM, where he posted a runner-up finish with a time of 1:57.56.
- Sophomore Anthony Martin (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) led the Valpo contingent in the sprints, recording the team’s top time in both the 50 free (21.96) and the 100 free (47.98).
- On the women’s side, four different Valpo swimmers led the team in two events apiece. Freshman Roxanne Adams (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico/Homeschooled) placed third in the 100 breast with a time of 1:11.21 and also paced Valpo in the 50 breast (32.07).
- The three other Beacon women to pace the squad in multiple events did so in two different disciplines. Freshman Olivia Tressler (Las Vegas, Nev./Desert Oasis) topped the team in the 200 free (2:05.90) and the 200 IM (2:19.06).
- Freshman Kailyn Benoit (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) led the way for Valpo in the 100 fly (1:01.37) and the 500 free (5:38.61).
- Freshman Gretchen Schmierer Knust (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission South) paced the Beacons in the 100 back (1:03.61) and the 50 fly (28.83).
- The Valpo men fell to Lewis in dual meet action, 199-63, while the women dropped dual meet decisions to both Lewis (190-72) and Butler (194.5-67.5).
