Christine Antrobus (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead H.S.) registered a singles win for Valparaiso on Saturday afternoon, but it was not enough as the Crusaders fell to Wright State 6-1 at the Valpo Tennis Complex.
Antrobus rallied from a set down to win in a super tie-break for the third set 5-7, 6-2, 10-3 at number six singles against Beth Ann Wipprecht.
Valpo also earned a win in doubles action as Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) and Jackie O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./DePere H.S.) earned an 8-5 triumph against Taylor Hines and Wipprecht.
Wright State (9-13, 1-6 Horizon) earned wins at the top two doubles spot though to take the match’s first point. Amanda Albuquerque and Kenisha Webb defeated Abby Wright (Sarasota, Fla./Pendleton H.S.) and Brittany O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest H.S.) 8-2 at number one doubles while Jackie Garrett and Amy Nini were 8-1 winners over Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.) and Camill Burden (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) at number two.
The Raiders won the top five singles matches all in straight sets. Web was a 6-3, 6-2 winner against Wright at the top of the order while Albuquerque downed Brittany O’Reilly 6-2, 6-2 at number two. Hines topped Bilyeu 6-1, 6-1 at three while Nini was a 6-1, 6-0 victor against York at the fourth spot. Garrett posted a 6-1, 6-2 win against Jackie O’Reilly at number five singles.
“We earned a couple more individual wins today,” head coach Traci Young said. “We’ll come back out tomorrow to try and finish the season strong.”
Valparaiso (0-14, 0-7) will close out the 2010 season on Sunday afternoon, hosting Butler in a 1 p.m. contest at the Valpo Tennis Complex.
