Mullings Earns a Pair of Wins at Butler Invitational
Micah Mullings, pictured at last year's MVC Outdoor, won two events on Saturday.

Valparaiso University track & field jumps standout Micah Mullings (Minesing, Ontario, Canada / Barrie North) captured victories in the triple jump and long jump, highlighting a strong resumption of competition for the Beacons, who participated in the Butler Invitational as part of their first action of the calendar year on Saturday in Indianapolis.

How It Happened

  • Mullings posted the second-best triple jump in program history at 14.28m (46-10.25). It marked the program’s best since Jarrett Mickens posted a record-setting mark of 48-10 in 2011. Mullings added a first-place leap of 7.15m (23-5.5) in the long jump.
  • The women’s squad also had an individual crack the program’s all-time top five as Katie Koryczan (Crown Point, Ind. / Crown Point [Purdue Northwest]) finished ninth in the 60 hurdles at 9.89 seconds. This marked the fifth-fastest time in that event in program history and fastest since Hannah Reynard’s 9.55 in 2016.
  • In addition to Mullings’ strong showing, AJ Walsh (Lombard, Ill. / IC Catholic Prep) finished third in the high jump at 1.93m (6-4) as part of a good day for Beacon jumpers.
  • In the throws, Tori Gerhardt (Westville, Ind. / Chesterton) and Will Rinker (Valparaiso, Ind. / Chesterton) both placed fourth in the weight for the women and men, respectively. Gerhardt’s mark of 16.31m (53-6.25) helped her notch a high finish in a 24-athlete field, while Rinker’s toss covered 15.87m (52-0.75).
  • In the sprints, Taylor Pusateri (Portage, Ind. / Portage) placed ninth of 20 in the women’s 200 at 26.61.
  • In the distance, Grace Aurand (Highland, Ind. / Highland) placed sixth of 22 in the women’s mile at 5:20.41. In the men’s mile, it was Joseph Scheele (Mahomet, Ill. / Mahomet-Seymour) leading the team by placing third of 18 in 4:20.24.
