Paul Bretscher

Sport(s) Swimming (1970-1975)
Year Inducted 2002

"The oldest of the Bretscher brothers to swim at VU, Paul set the tone as a national-caliber performer.

As a junior in 1973, he earned NCAA College Division All-America honors after finishing second at the College Division Championships in the 100 fly. A four-time participant at the College Division Championships, Paul was a freshman on the Crusader team that finished second in the nation in 1971. Paul was one of the most talented swimmers in the Indiana Collegiate Conference, garnering conference MVP honors in 1973 after capturing titles in the 200 individual medley, 100 breastroke and 100 fly.

He was also a triple winner as a senior in 1974 at the ICC Championships, claiming the 100 breastroke, 200 breastroke and 200 individual medley titles. Paul also won the ICC title in the 100 fly as a sophomore in 1972.

He is currently the swimming and diving coach, as well as a physical education/health teacher at the Greencastle (Ind.) Community School Corporation.
