Valpo Product Chase Dawson to be Honored by Schaumburg Boomers
Chase Dawson played at Valpo from 2016-2019.

Former Valparaiso University baseball standout Chase Dawson (Chesterton, Ind. / Andrean) will be honored by the Schaumberg Boomers of the Frontier League on Sunday night as the first 1,000 fans to enter the gates of Wintrust Field will receive a Dawson bobblehead prior to the game against the New York Boulders at 6 p.m.

Dawson, who played at Valpo from 2016-2019, set the Frontier League record for triples in 2022 with 24, breaking the mark before the all-star break with his 17th triple on July 13. The prior record was set in 2006. Dawson becomes the first player in Boomers history to receive his own bobblehead.

Dawson, a Frontier League West Division All-Star last year, tripled in five consecutive games from May 25-29 and connected on his final three-bagger of the season on Sept. 4 in the regular-season finale. The fourth-year member of the Boomers tripled twice on Aug. 6 against Windy City to set the team’s single-game record. Dawson finished with 22 doubles and five homers to set the team record for extra-base hits. The left-handed hitter batted .310 and led the team with 64 RBIs, 76 runs and 119 hits while stealing 23 bases in 24 attempts.

Dawson was selected as a Frontier League Postseason All-Star in 2021. He initially joined the team in 2019 and played in 41 games that season and returned in 2021 to bat .312 with 14 doubles, nine triples, 10 homers and 68 RBIs. Dawson is the franchise’s all-time leader in triples and will have the opportunity to take over the career lead in several other categories this season.

During his time at Valpo, Dawson was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team and All-Tournament Team in 2016 before earning All-Missouri Valley Conference Second Team honors in 2019 after leading the team with a .324 batting average. He ranks sixth in program history in career runs scored (145), tied for second in triples (13) and third in assists (459).
