Charlie Boston is in his fourth season as a member of the Valparaiso coaching and his third as the running backs coach. He rejoined the staff prior to the 2005 campaign for his second stint with the Brown and Gold, as he also served as the team’s offensive coordinator in 1979 when the Crusaders led the Heartland Conference in total offense.
While guiding the running backs, Boston tutored Mid-Major All-American Jeff Horton, who set the single season school rushing record in 2005. Horton also set the school’s career rushing mark in 2006.
Prior to returning to Valpo, Boston was the head football coach at Kankakee Valley High School in Indiana in 1987-1990 and at Hobart High School in Indiana from 1999-2002.
He played his collegiate football at Western Illinois, where he was a three-year starter as a defensive back. In 1974, Boston led the Leathernecks to a quarterfinal appearance in the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs. He also played with the New York Stars in the World Football League.
Boston earned his bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois in 1975 in education and his master’s degree from WIU in 1976 in education.
