Stan Rettew joined the Crusader football staff prior to the 2005 season and will serve as the defensive coordinator for the Brown and Gold.
Rettew arrives at Valpo after serving as the head coach at Si Tanka University in South Dakota for three seasons. The Screaming Eagles became a conference contender during his stint at Si Tanka and nearly doubled in size from when he inherited the program. He served as the school’s Athletic Director for a year and a half and also taught health and physical education at Si Tanka for nearly two years.
Rettew also served as the head coach at Mayville State in North Dakota from 1996 through 2001, and was the school’s Athletic Director for his last four years there. His previous coaching stints also included stops at Millersville University in Pennsylvania, where he was the defensive line coach and special teams coordinator, Shippensburg University, North Dakota State, and Iowa Wesleyan. While at North Dakota State as a graduate assistant, the Bison won a pair of NCAA Division II national titles.
He graduated from Iowa Wesleyan in 1984 with a degree in physical education, health, and recreation and took graduate courses in education at North Dakota State. He was an NAIA All-America Honorable Mention selection at Iowa Wesleyan in 1983, the same season he was an First Team All-District pick.
