Volleyball Set For 2023 NIVC
For the third straight year and the fourth time in the last six seasons, the Valpo volleyball program heads to postseason play after earning an at-large bid to the 2023 NIVC. The Beacons will travel to Greeley, Colo. for the tournament's first two rounds, taking on host Northern Colorado in opening-round action on Thursday before a potential second-round matchup against either Wyoming or South Dakota on Friday.

The Valpo volleyball team had a trio of players recognized on Monday as MVC Scholar-Athlete honorees, as the conference announced its Scholar-Athlete squads. Miranda Strongman (Wolverine Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Central [LIU]) was an MVC First Team Scholar-Athlete selection, while Bella Ravotto (Mishawaka, Ind./Marian) and Emma Hickey (Granger, Ind./Penn) both were named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Second Team.

Volleyball Earns Bid to 2023 NIVC; Faces Northern Colorado in First Round
The Valpo volleyball program returns to the postseason for the third consecutive season and the fourth time in the last six years, as the Beacons learned they had earned an at-large bid to the 2023 National Invitational Volleyball Championship on Sunday evening. Valpo will make the trip to Greeley, Colo. for the tournament’s first two rounds and will face host Northern Colorado on Thursday night at 7 p.m. CT.

Volleyball Falls in First Round of MVC Tournament
The fifth-seeded Valpo volleyball team kicked off its opening-round match of the MVC Volleyball Tournament against eighth-seeded Belmont by rolling to a first-set win, but the Beacons were unable to take advantage of chances to capture each of the next two sets as the Bruins rallied for a 3-1 (17-25, 27-25, 26-24, 25-11) victory which ended Valpo's quest for the tournament title.

The Valpo volleyball team heads to the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in Springfield, Mo. early next week as the fifth seed in the eight-team field. The Beacons, who open tournament play against eighth-seeded Belmont, will have to win four matches in four days to claim the tournament title.

The Valpo volleyball team shut the door on the 2023 regular season on Wednesday evening in Chicago, falling in straight sets to host UIC (25-20, 25-21, 25-19). The Beacons will enter the 2023 MVC Tournament as the fifth seed, opening tournament play against Belmont Sunday afternoon.

A lot is on the line for the Valpo volleyball team on Wednesday evening as the Beacons travel to UIC for their regular season finale. With a win, Valpo would finish in third place in the Valley regular season standings - matching its best finish since joining the MVC - while with a loss, the Beacons would be dependent on other results to learn whether they secured a first-round bye.

Taking to the floor for its final home match of the season, the Valpo volleyball team looked to send its senior class out victors on Senior Night, rolling MVC regular season champions UNI in the first set. But the visiting Panthers came back with wins in each of the next three frames for a 3-1 (13-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-14) victory.

Trailing by two sets Friday evening in Peoria, Ill., the Valpo volleyball team was up to the task, rallying to take the final three sets and earn a 3-2 (19-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-22, 15-12) victory over Bradley to move into a tie for third place in the MVC standings. With the win, the Beacons secured their 20th winning season in 22 campaigns under head coach Carin Avery.

The Valpo volleyball team kicked off a four-match stretch on the road in fine fashion Friday evening in Terre Haute, Ind., sweeping host Indiana State (25-17, 25-18, 25-16). The Beacons’ block was strong throughout the match, as they racked up 13 total team blocks, nine of which senior Mallory Januski (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) was part of to match the program’s single-match high in a three-set match in the 25-point era.

Volleyball Opens MVC Play With Trio of Home Matches
Missouri Valley Conference play opens up for the Valpo volleyball team with a flurry of home matches at the ARC, as the Beacons take the floor three times in a five-day span. The MVC slate kicks off against Missouri State Friday evening, with head coach Carin Avery being honored prior to the match in recognition of her breaking Valpo Athletics' all-time wins record last weekend. Homecoming festivities continue Saturday night against Southern Illinois, with the 20-year reunion of the 2003 team which won the Mid-Continent Conference regular season and tournament titles. The stretch of matches closes Tuesday evening against UIC.

Valpo volleyball head coach Carin Avery stands alone among Valparaiso University head coaches, earning her 479th victory Saturday at the helm of the program to become the winningest head coach across all sports in Valpo Athletics history. Avery moved past Valpo Athletics legend Emory Bauer as her Beacons swept a pair of matches to close out the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational, taking care of Miami (Ohio) in straight sets (25-14, 25-17, 25-19) in the early afternoon before finishing up with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-22) sweep of the hosts in evening action.

The Valpo volleyball team kicked off the 2023 Popcorn Classic at the ARC Friday with a pair of victories, defeating Western Illinois 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-18) in the tournament opener Friday morning before coming back in the evening and twice overcoming one-set deficits for a 3-2 (23-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-14, 15-6) victory over Eastern Michigan. In the latter match, senior middle Mallory Januski (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) posted the third-best hitting percentage in a five-set match in program history.

Valpo Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award, Named to Team Academic Honor Roll
The Valpo volleyball program received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2022-23 academic year, as announced by the AVCA. It marks the 18th time in the last 20 seasons that the program has earned the award. In addition, Valpo was named to the AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll for maintaining a cumulative team GPA which ranks among the top 20% of Division I programs.
