Crusaders Finish Fifth at Bulldog Florida Invitational

The Valparaiso University women’s golf team wrapped up its week in Jacksonville, Fla., finishing in fifth place at the Bulldog Florida Invitational, hosted by Butler University, on Thursday.

The Crusaders, were led by a top-five performance from junior Angie Kim (Schaumburg, Ill./Fremd). Kim put up a second-round score of 79 to finish at 156, tying her for fifth place overall, just six strokes off the lead.

Sophomore Katie Willenbrink (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn) finished tied for 23rd overall with a score of 164. Freshman Kylie Shoemake (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) placed third overall for the Crusader team, shooting a 166 after a second-round 83.

Senior Sibil Gill (Kokomo, Ind./Western) closed out her week in Florida with a round of 82 on Thursday to finish with a 172. Rounding out the five-player Crusader squad was junior Sydney Shrum (Cloverdale, Ind./Cloverdale) with a 182.

As a team the Crusaders finished the 36-hole invitational with a team score of 658 following a team round Thursday of 331.

Playing as individuals for the Crusaders were sophomore Kiana Jongsma (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central), who posted a 36-hole score of 181, and freshman Madison McCreary (Batesville, Ind./Batesville), who posted a two-day score of 193.

The Valparaiso women will take the rest of March off from competition before heading to Fort Wayne, Ind. to play in the IPFW Spring Classic on April 3rd and 4th.
