Women’s Golf Tees Off Season at Illinois State

The Valparaiso University women’s golf team began the 2023-24 season on Sunday as the fall slate teed off with the Beacons partaking in the Redbird Invitational, hosted by Illinois State at the par-72, 6093-yard Weibring Golf Club in Normal, Ill. Madison Keil (LaGrange, Ind. / Lakeland) and Anna Fay (Ada, Mich. / Forest Hills) lead Valpo through two rounds.

How It Happened

  • Keil owns a 36-hole score of 159, tied for the best showing by a Beacon on the first day of fall action. She turned in a 78 in the opening round before following with an 81 in Round 2.
  • The best 18-hole performance by a member of the Brown & Gold on Sunday came courtesy of Fay in Round 2. She stroked a 77 to finish the day at 159.
  • Two more Valpo golfers had sub-80 second rounds, with Katie Schriener (Fenton, Mo. / Summit) and Taylor Skibinski (Michigan City, Ind. / Michigan City) finishing at 79 and 78, respectively, during the afternoon 18.
  • Valpo finished the day with a team score of 646, four strokes behind Eastern Illinois for 15th. The Beacons made a 16-stroke improvement from Round 1 to Round 2.
