The Valparaiso University women’s golf team teed off the Don Benbow Spring Invitational on Monday, beginning a two-day, 36-hole event hosted by Butler at the par-72, 6297-yard Ardea Country Club course in Oldsmar, Fla. Taylor Skibinski (Michigan City, Ind. / Michigan City) posted the top score by a Beacon on the first day of the event.  

How It Happened

• Skibinski’s 82 accounted for the team’s best Round-1 score. She is tied for 48^th in a 98-golfer field.
• Roslyn Leitner (Dundee, Ill. / Harry Jacobs) posted the squad’s second-best score with an 84. She was followed by Katie Schreiner (Fenton, Mo. / Summit) with an 87.
• The team score of 341 is five shots out of 15^th and nine out of 14^th with 18 holes remaining. Western Michigan (302) leads the tournament, while Quinnipiac’s Leeyen Peralta owns the top spot on the player leaderboard.
• Leitner, Madison Keil (LaGrange, Ind. / Lakeland) and Katelyn McCoy (Chesterton, Ind. / Chesterton) all drained birdies for the Beacons.
