Keil Leads the Way as Beacons Make Improvement on Second Day in Daytona Beach
Madison Keil stroked a 79 on Tuesday to lead the team.

The Valparaiso University women’s golf team trimmed 11 strokes off its Round-1 total and climbed a spot in the team standings on Tuesday’s second and final day of the two-round SHU Spring Invitational, hosted at the par-72, 5921-yard LPGA International Hills Course in Daytona Beach, Fla. Madison Keil (LaGrange, Ind. / Lakeland) posted the team’s best score on Tuesday.

How It Happened

  • Keil carded a 79 to lead the Beacons and move into the team lead for the tournament at 166 (t-40).
  • She was followed by Taylor Skibinski (Michigan City, Ind. / Michigan City), whose score of 81 helped her rank second on the team for the day and the tournament. The freshman finished in 42nd in the 77-player field.
  • The third-best score by a Beacon came from Emily Krzyzanowski (Scottsbluff, Neb. / Gering), who used 81 strokes in Tuesday’s round to finish with a 36-hole score of 168.
  • As a team, Valpo improved from 341 in Round 1 to 330 in Round 2 to complete the tournament at 671, moving past Hartford for 10th on the team leaderboard. The Beacons also performed better than Saint Francis and Siena in Tuesday’s round.
  • Host Sacred Heart won the event at 605, led by individual medalist Chantal El Chaib at 146.
  • Valpo’s best performance came on par-5 holes, where the team averaged a 5.58.

“I’m very proud of the girls today. We’re not quite where we should be, but we’ve made some good strides. Maddie, Taylor and Emily definitely built some confidence and momentum today. Hopefully we can get outside in the next few weeks and continue to build good momentum heading toward the conference championship.”
