Martins, Robinson Named to MVC Scholar-Athlete Team

Valpo women’s swimmers Chiara Robinson (Castle Pines, Colo./Rock Canyon) and Erica Martins (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) were named to the 2020 Missouri Valley Conference Swimming Scholar-Athlete Team, as announced by the conference office Thursday.

Martins is studying nursing while maintaining a 3.50 GPA. The senior broke the school record this season in the 100 butterfly and lowered her record at the MVC Championships, finishing 13th in the event. She also was part of 200 medley relay and 400 free relay squads which moved into second in program history in the respective events at the MVC Championships, and was a member of the school-record 400 medley relay squad earlier this season.

Robinson currently holds an impressive 3.83 GPA while studying civil engineering. The sophomore, who currently ranks second in program history in the 100 IM, was a member of the 200 and 400 free relay teams at the MVC Championships, helping the latter team to the second-best time in program history. Robinson also competed in the 50 and 100 free and the 100 breaststroke at the conference meet.

To be named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete team, swimmers must meet one of the following criteria: a 3.3 cumulative GPA and All-Conference honors; a 3.5 cumulative GPA and a top-16 finish in an individual event at the MVC Championships; or a 3.8 cumulative GPA and participation in the MVC Championships.
