Valpo freshman swimmer Kailyn Benoit (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) has been tabbed the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week after a swim worthy of the Beacons’ record book last Saturday.

Benoit took top honors in Valpo’s dual meet against Green Bay in the 200 fly, touching the wall in 2:11.21 — more than two full seconds ahead of the runner-up. Her time leapfrogged her into third place in program history in the event.

Benoit also earned a second-place finish in her only other individual swim, covering the 100 fly in 1:01.31. She also was part of Valpo’s ‘A’ squad in the 400 medley relay which came home second.

Benoit and the rest of the Beacons return to the pool next week at Southern Illinois’ A3 Performance Invitational.
