Sophomore Kat Hebble (Sellersburg, Ind./Silver Creek) rallied back for a sensational 4-6, 7-6 (2), 10-7 win over Ball State's Carmen Blanco on Saturday, but the Cardinals recorded a 6-1 win over the Valpo women's tennis team at the Muncie YMCA.
Ball State seized the doubles point thanks to 6-1 victories at No. 1 and No. 3. Peyton Gollhofer and Audrey Berger downed Hebble and Paige Heuer (Munster, Ind./Munster) atop doubles before Bethany Moore/Isabelle Dohanics followed suit at No. 3. Meg Modesto (Chesteron, Ind./Chesterton) and Cary Milanes (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) dropped a 6-2 match at No. 2 to Toni Ormond and Julia Sbircea after BSU secured the point.
Moore opened singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Halle Roach (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) before Randi Wind (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) dropped a 6-1, 6-2 affair to Rosalinda Calderon.
Sbircea clinched Ball State's second win of the spring with a 6-1, 6-0 win versus Modesto at No. 3. Dohanics got past Milanes at No. 4 by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Ormond upended Heuer, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 2 singles.
Hebble got Valpo on the scoreboard by virtue of her gutsy three-set win atop singles play. She improved to 7-6 in singles play following her 4-6, 7-6 (2), 10-7 victory over Blanco.
Valpo (0-3) will travel to Indianapolis next weekend to face IUPUI (0-7) at the West Indy Racquet Club. First serve will take place Sunday afternoon at 5:30 pm ET/4:30 pm CT.
