"A two-sport varsity athlete at Valparaiso, Randy Goede competed in both baseball and basketball for the Brown and Gold.
An outstanding left-handed pitcher on the baseball diamond, Goede was a three-time All-Indiana Collegiate Conference selection from 1968-1970.
During his career, he went 17-8 overall on the mound, with a 2.25 earned run average and 257 strikeouts in 188 innings. During all three seasons, Goede led the Crusaders to ICC titles, including a perfect 12-0 league mark in 1968. That same season he was an All-America selection.
Over the three years, Valpo went 46-18 and participated in the NCAA regionals twice. He also set single game strikeout records for the Crusaders, fanning 15 in a seven inning game as well as 17 during a nine inning contest.
He was drafted by the Washington Senators in 1969 and the Cleveland Indians in 1970, and went on to play professional baseball for the Sherbrooke Alouettes in 1970.
On the basketball court, Goede had his finest season as a senior, when he averaged 10.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest as a center. Upon leaving Valparaiso, he continued playing in the National Lutheran Basketball Tournament, where he won a national championship in 1975. He also was named to the All-Tournament Team in 1975, 1983, and 1984.
He is now the president of Goede Trucking Inc.
