Transfer Kelly Watts to Join Valpo Program
Valparaiso University head coach Keith Freeman has announced that Kelly Watts will be transferring from Eastern Michigan University to join the Crusader program beginning in the fall of 2008 after playing for the Eagles the past two seasons.

2007-2008 Valpo Women's Hoops Year in Review
Valparaiso ventured into the Horizon League for the first time in 2007-2008 and finished the season .500 in conference play with a 9-9 mark in the Crusaders’ inaugural season. Valpo finished the season 14-16 overall, bowing out of the Horizon League Tournament in the quarterfinals following a 67-60 loss at Milwaukee.

The Valparaiso University women’s basketball team (14-15, 9-9 Horizon) will head to Milwaukee, Wis. on Wednesday evening for the Horizon League Tournament quarterfinals to battle the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (16-13, 11-7). Valparaiso held Youngstown State without a field goal for the final 6:47 of the game, and the defense propelled the Crusader offense into a late 10-0 run as the Brown and Gold defeated the Penguins 70-59 on Saturday evening in Youngstown, Ohio.

Agnieszka Kulaga (Tarnow, Poland/I Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace H.S.) sent the game into overtime, sinking three free throws with 0.2 seconds to play in regulation on her way to a triple-double of 20 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds.

Aimee Litka (South Bend, Ind./Saint Joseph’s) knocked down six 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 30 points Saturday afternoon, leading Valparaiso to an 85-66 exhibition victory over the Showtime Skins from Australia.

Rietema Named Mid-Con Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Valparaiso University’s Betsy Rietema (Grand Rapids, Mich./Christian H.S.) has been named the 2006-2007 Mid-Continent Conference Women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year in a vote of the conference’s faculty athletic representatives. The Mid-Con Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award is the most prestigious individual honor given by the league.
