Brittany Anderson Named Valpo Director of Compliance
A familiar face in the Valparaiso University Department of Athletics both as a student-athlete and as a compliance intern, Brittany Anderson has joined the department in a full-time capacity. She has assumed Director of Compliance responsibilities, as announced by Executive Associate Athletic Director Sarah Pruess.

Valpo Student-Athlete Academic Success Center to Bear Mark LaBarbera’s Name
President José D. Padilla, J.D. and the Valparaiso University Board of Directors have announced that the newly renovated academic suite in the Athletics-Recreation Center will be named the Mark LaBarbera Academic Success Center in recognition of LaBarbera, who is retiring on June 30 after 18 years as Valpo Director of Athletics.

Valpo Athletics Announces Hall of Fame Class of 2022
Four individuals will be inducted into the Valparaiso University Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, Sept. 23 as part of Homecoming Weekend festivities. Jim Daugherty, Nic Kooyers ’07, Rin Seibert ’76 and Brian Thiel ’93 comprise the 25th class in Hall of Fame history.

Valpo Athletics Leads Missouri Valley Conference in Academic Achievement
Valpo Athletics continues to produce champions in the classroom, which was reinforced on Tuesday as the NCAA released its most recent Academic Progress Rate (APR) data. Nearly half of the athletics programs achieved perfect Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores of 1000, while 11 posted scores of 990 or better and 13 of 17 posted scores above the national average in their respective sport.

Dr. Charles Small Named Valparaiso University Director of Athletics
A dynamic rising star in collegiate athletics administration with a focus on the holistic student-athlete experience, Charles Small, Ed.D., is the next Director of Athletics at Valparaiso University, as announced by University President José D. Padilla, J.D., on Thursday, May 19, 2022. Small, who will officially assume the role on July 1 and will be Valpo’s first Black Director of Athletics, most recently spent the last four years on the athletic department’s senior staff at Iowa State University.

Valparaiso University Athletic Director Mark LaBarbera Announces Retirement
Valparaiso University Athletic Director Mark LaBarbera has notified University President José D. Padilla that he has decided to retire at the conclusion of this academic year, June 30, 2022. In LaBarbera’s 18-year tenure at Valpo he has overseen an athletic program that houses 17 teams competing in 19 NCAA sports as well as the University’s move to the Missouri Valley Conference, multiple facility renovations and the creation of an Esports program.

Valpo Athletics Posts 91 Percent Graduation Success Rate
Valparaiso University student-athletes continued to thrive academically as the NCAA released its latest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) data on Thursday. Valpo posted an overall GSR of 91 for the current cohort, its best rate since 2011-2012.

Valpo Athletics to Hold Rummage Sale
Valpo Athletics announced today that it will hold a Rummage Sale of new and used athletic gear the week of July 12 in the racquetball courts of the Athletics-Recreation Center, which will be open to the general public July 15 and 16. The sale will include jerseys, shorts, pants, sweatshirts, t-shirts, jackets, blankets and other miscellaneous items.
