Bretl Repeats as Academic All-League Honoree

For the second straight season, Valparaiso University men’s swimming senior Robbie Bretl (Wauwatosa, Wis./Marquette University H.S.) has been named to the Summit League Academic All-League Team. Bretl is one of just two members of the men’s swimming Academic All-League Team to repeat from last year’s squad, and earned his third consecutive Academic All-League award, dating back to the team’s time in the Horizon League.


Valpo Swimming Wraps Up Final Day of Conference Championships

The final day of championship swimming came to a close today for the Valparaiso University swim teams as the 2018-2019 season concluded. The final day of competition saw more swimmers enter their names into the top 10 in program history, highlighted by freshman Isabel Jenny (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) setting her second program record in as many days to lead the Valpo women at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships. Meanwhile, freshman Dominic May (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) moved himself into second place all-time in the 100 freestyle and Valpo had a relay nearly set a new program record as well as the men finished competition at the Summit League Championships presented by U.S. Air Force Special Operations.


Pair of Record-Setting Performances Highlight Another Strong Day For Valpo Swimming

The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s swimming teams each had a record-setting swim lead the way in day three of conference championship competition on Friday. The men’s team performance at the Summit League Championships presented by U.S. Air Force Special Operations was led by a school-record time in the 200 free from freshman Dominic May (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central). Not to be outdone, on the women’s side at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships, fellow freshman Isabel Jenny (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) lowered the program record in the 100 backstroke for the third time this season.


Valpo Swimming Posts Number of Top-10 Times at Conference Championship Meets Thursday

The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s swimming teams continued to impress at their respective conference championships Thursday with more performances that rank among the best in program history. On the men’s side, senior Dylan Kirar (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) led the way with a sixth-place finish in the 500 freestyle at the Summit League Championships presented by U.S. Air Force Special Operations. For the Valpo women, freshman Isabel Jenny (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) set a new personal best in the 200 IM which moved her into third place all-time at Valpo to lead the way at the MVC Championships.


Valpo Men Set Program Record, Women Post Strong Swims on Day One of Conference Championships

The Valparaiso University swimming teams opened their respective conference championship meets Wednesday with strong performances. The Valpo men kicked off the Summit League Championships in Sioux Falls, S.D. with a school-record swim in the 800 free relay, while the women’s team started off the MVC Championships in Columbia, Mo. with a pair of performances that entered into the program’s record books.


Valpo Swimming Competes in Butler Invitational

Sunday morning saw the Valparaiso University men’s and women’s swimming teams competing in the Butler Invitational, their last tune up before league championships begin in February. The women finished in 10th position, while the men finished in eighth place as a number of swimmers posted season-best times on the second day of back-to-back competitions.


Valpo Swimming Faces Eastern Illinois in Final Dual Meet

Saturday afternoon, the Valparaiso University men’s and women’s swimming teams took on Eastern Illinois in their final dual meet of the 2018-19 season. The women fell by a score of 191-67, while the men fell by a score of 170-92 despite strong performances by junior Erica Martins (Hartland, Wis./Lake County Lutheran) on the women’s side and freshman Billy Bennett (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) and senior Dylan Kirar (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) for the men.


Valpo Swimming Takes On Rose-Hulman In Final Home Meet

Friday evening saw the Valparaiso University men’s and women’s swimming teams take on Rose-Hulman in the final home meet of the 2018-2019 season. On the women’s side, freshman Isabel Jenny (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) and junior Paige Wright (Surprise, Ariz./Paradise Honors) took center stage, earning two first-place finishes apiece to lead Valpo to a 125-62 victory, while the men’s team fell 159-102.


Jenny Lowers Program Record as Swimmers Cap Off Phoenix Fall Classic With Strong Sunday

Valpo freshman Isabel Jenny (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) continued her tremendous first season in the Brown and Gold, lowering her program record in the 100 back, as the Valparaiso University men’s and women’s swimming teams wrapped up the 2018 Phoenix Fall Classic on Sunday, placing fifth and fourth – respectively – out of the 11 competing schools. Freshmen Billy Bennett (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) and Dominic May (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central), as well as junior Erica Martins (Hartland, Wis./Lake County Lutheran), each had solid Sunday efforts as well, continuing where the team left off yesterday as they found their way into Valpo’s record books.

The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s swimming concluded the first day of action of the Phoenix Fall Classic at the University of Chicago on Friday. Teams got underway with six events to start the weekend, with the remaining events taking place over the course of Saturday and Sunday. The day was highlighted by freshman Isabel Jenny (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) setting a program record in the 100 backstroke as the lead leg of the 400 medley relay.

The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s swimming teams competed in their second consecutive road meet on Saturday afternoon in University City, Mich., taking on Saginaw Valley State and Davenport in a tri-meet. The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s swimming teams hosted their second home meet of the 2018-19 season Saturday afternoon, as they took on Summit League foe Eastern Illinois at the ARC Pool. Both Valpo and Eastern Illinois recorded 14 first-place finishes apiece on the afternoon, with junior Paige Wright (Surprise, Ariz./Paradise Honors) leading the way with a trio of first-place finishes for Valpo.


Swimmers Battle in Cedar Falls at First Road Meet

The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s swimming teams competed in their first away meet of the 2018-19 season on Saturday afternoon at the University of Northern Iowa. Valpo squared off against the Panthers, along with Western Illinois and South Dakota State. Senior Dylan Kirar (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) was the top swimmer on the afternoon for Valpo, taking home first in the 1000-free.

Four Valpo Athletes Named to Summit League Commissioner’s List

A quartet of Valparaiso University student-athletes were recognized on Thursday as the Summit League unveiled its 2018 Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence.
