2023: Made 15 appearances, all starts as part of the team’s weekend rotation… Went 4-5 with a 6.46 ERA while striking out 73 and walking 36… Logged 69 2/3 innings… Tied for fourth in the league in games started, ranked 13th in innings pitched and ranked eighth in strikeouts… Went 3-2 with a 5.26 ERA in MVC-only games, working 49 2/3 innings over nine starts… Grabbed his first win of the season with five innings of one-run ball on four hits on Feb. 24 at UT Martin… Picked up the win with 7 1/3 innings of one-run, four-hit ball while striking out six on April 7 at Evansville… Earned the W on May 5 vs. Southern Illinois by firing seven innings… Racked up a season-high 11 strikeouts in eight innings on May 12 at Belmont in a game where he became the winning pitcher.
2022: Appeared in 11 games including seven starts, six of which came after he made his way into the weekend rotation as the Sunday starter... Finished the year with a 5.67 ERA while walking 16 and striking out 28 over 39 2/3 innings... Posted a 2-4 record... Earned his first collegiate victory on April 17 in his hometown of Normal, Ill. by limiting Illinois State to one run on four hits while walking one and striking out five over six quality innings, helping Valpo win the rubber match of a road series.
2021: Pitched in nine games and made two starts… Made his collegiate debut on Feb. 27 at Jacksonville State… Made his first career start on April 27 at No. 8 Notre Dame… Also got the starting nod on May 11 vs. the No. 8 Fighting Irish and pitched a gem at Emory G. Bauer Field, holding the guests to no runs on one hit – a seeing-eye single through the left side – while walking just one and striking out four in six innings. He left in position for the win after becoming just the third pitcher to hold Notre Dame scoreless while pitching six or more innings all season, joining Duke’s Jack Carey and Boston College’s Emmett Sheehan… Saw action in the MVC Tournament by working 2 1/3 innings on May 26 vs. DBU.
Prep: Earned first team all-conference honors in 2018 before receiving a second-team all-conference nod in 2019… Posted the highest fielding percentage by a starting shortstop in school history… Three-year varsity letter winner on the diamond… Also won three letters in golf and one in a basketball… Finished in the top 10 in school history in 3-point field goals on the hardwood, while garnering all-conference honors and qualifying for state on the golf course… Played travel baseball with the Renegades Red (9U – 14U), BNBA gold (15U – 16U) and Illinois Braves (17U).
Personal: Majoring in business… Son of Mindy and Scott McCluskey… Has an older brother, Henry, and a younger sister, Molly… Enjoys playing the guitar… Favorite food is BBQ ribs, movie is 21 Jump Street, pro baseball team is the St. Louis Cardinals, MLB player is David Ortiz, musical group is Red Hot Chili Peppers and TV Show is South Park.
