2020-21 preseason feature story

2019-20: Was named to the MVC Most-Improved Team after upping his scoring average from 2.8 points per game as a sophomore to 8.8 points per game as a junior… Finished fourth on the squad in scoring after ranking ninth on the team the year prior… Started all 34 games that he played after making just one start and averaging 8.1 minutes per game as a sophomore… Over doubled his rebounding average from the previous season, going from 1.5 to 3.2… After making 10 3-pointers as a sophomore, he made 40 during his junior campaign and shot 42.3 percent from distance during conference play… Had 11 double-figure scoring outputs, six games with five or more rebounds and three multi-block performances… Led the team in scoring four times, all coming in a nine-game span from Jan. 23 to Feb. 19… Was the team’s top rebounder in a pair of contests… Started the season opener on Nov. 5 vs. Toledo and turned in a double-figure output of 11 points to go along with four rebounds... Posted 13 points on Nov. 12 at SIUE... Set then a career high for the second straight game with 16 points vs. North Dakota on Nov. 17, his third double-figure output in the first four games of the season... Topped his previous rebounding career high with nine, coming just shy of a double-double in a 14-point effort on Dec. 21 at Arkansas... Made three key 3-pointers in the second half on Jan. 4 at Evansville, his first 2019-20 game with multiple made triples... Swiped three steals on Jan. 11 vs. Drake, establishing a season high... Led his team in scoring for the first time in his collegiate career, posting 12 points on Jan. 23 at Missouri State while draining three 3s... Had 16 points and three blocked shots on Jan. 26 vs. Evansville to lead Valpo in scoring for the second straight game after previously not doing so in any of his first 70 career games. He recorded a game-saving blocked shot in the final minute of a two-point win over the Aces... Made four 3s and finished with a team-high 14 points in just 16 minutes on Feb. 9 at Loyola, leading the team in scoring for the third time in six games... Posted a career-high 20 points in an overtime defeat on Feb. 19 at Drake. That performance included six 3s, allowing him to tie for the most made triples by a Valpo player in 2019-20 and become just the fourth Missouri Valley Conference player with six 3s or more in a league game during the season. He led the team in scoring for the fourth time in a nine-game span... Had his second straight game with 15+ points by scoring 16 in a Feb. 22 victory vs. Bradley. That marked his seventh time in a 12-game span scoring in double figures.

2018-19: Saw action in 30 games as a sophomore, playing 8.1 minutes/game ... averaged 2.8 points and 1.5 rebounds per game ... tallied a pair of assists and blocked two shots in season-opening win over Concordia Chicago Nov. 6 ... played season-high 26 minutes against Western Kentucky Nov. 15, scoring seven points ... came up with two steals in Dec. 8 win at George Washington ... finished with season highs of nine points and six rebounds in just 13 minutes of action in win over Purdue Northwest Dec. 29 ... grabbed four rebounds Jan. 8 in MVC win over Bradley ... matched season best with nine points, including a 6-for-6 effort from the foul line, Jan. 15 at Loyola ... scored seven points against Drake Jan. 26 ... knocked down both of his 3-point attempts for six points Feb. 13 versus Indiana State ... notched four rebounds in 13 minutes in regular season finale against Evansville March 2 ... blocked two shots in MVC quarterfinal against Loyola March 8.

2017-18: Appeared in all 32 games as a freshman, starting each of the season's final 18 games ... played 10.6 minutes/game, averaging 3.2 points and 1.4 rebounds per contest ... shot 36.4% from 3-point range for the season ... debuted for Valpo with eight points and a season-high seven rebounds Nov. 10 in win over North Park ... hit all three of his field goal attempts to finish with seven points in win over Samford Nov. 21 ... tallied six points at UC Riverside Dec. 20 ... debuted in MVC play with six points in 30 minutes of action Dec. 31 against Missouri State ... enjoyed best shooting performance of his rookie year Jan. 24 against Evansville, knocking down 4-of-5 3-point attempts for a season-best 12 points ... averaged 6.7 ppg over stretch of three MVC games Feb. 14-20.

Prep: Played AAU for Indiana Elite ... key contributor to Merrillville's success as a junior, averaging nearly seven rebounds per game for the Pirates as they finished the year with a 22-2 record ... stood out at the Indiana Top 80 camp, being named the camp’s Mr. Defender.

Personal: Son of Greg Lewis and Latina Cross ... major is sports management... Was cut from his middle school basketball team in seventh grade, made the "B" team in eighth grade and missed his freshman year of high school with an injury... Twin brother Mahqueese attends Cal State Los Angeles... One of four brothers... Enjoys playing with his dog, roller skating and playing chess... Likes to look at the sky, especially prior to rainfall or during a sunset... Is a big fan of nature and the sound of trains.
