Bowling Finishes Third at Red Flash Invitational

The Valpo bowling team picked up a pair of victories on the final day of action Sunday at the Red Flash Invitational in Altoona, Pa. to finish the tournament in third place.

How It Happened

  • Valpo opened Sunday’s action, contested in the best-of-seven baker format, against host St. Francis (Pa.). After falling behind 2-1 in the match, the Beacons posted a 207 in game four to even the match. Valpo followed with a game five win to move to the brink of the match win and then closed out the 4-2 victory with a strong 235 in game six.
  • Valpo used games of 254 and 233 in its next match against Walsh to again move within one game of clinching the match at 3-2. But the Beacons were unable to advance to the tournament championship match, as Walsh claimed each of the final two games for a 4-3 win.
  • The loss dropped the Beacons into the third-place matchup, their second showdown of the day with the tournament hosts. Just like the opener, Valpo found itself down 2-1 before claiming three straight games for a 4-2 victory, closing things out with a 215 game to secure the win.

Next Up

Valpo (32-34) is off from competition next weekend before returning to the lanes at Lewis’ Flyer Classic in Lockport, Ill. The three-day tournament begins Friday, Feb. 10.
