Bowling Posts Three More Wins Saturday at Flyer Classic

Led by the team-best average Saturday from sophomore Jen Patz (Naples, Fla./Naples), the #20 Valpo bowling team picked up three more victories on the second day of action from the Flyer Classic in Lockport, Ill.

How It Happened

  • Valpo opened Saturday’s action, contested in the traditional team format, against Augustana. Despite a team-high 212 game from junior Lilu Smith (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln), the Beacons dropped a 947-916 decision
  • The Beacons bounced back in the second match slot to edge out #16 Newman 837-831, paced by a 209 game by senior Isabella Palamaro (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland).
  • Patz notched a 225 in the third match of the day, but it wasn’t enough to beat Carthage, as the Beacons fell 896-829.
  • Again, Valpo rebounded with a victory, using a team-high 191 game by freshman Maia Struble (Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond) to beat Dominican by an 872-642 final.
  • The Beacons closed the day’s action with their highest-scoring match of the day in a 993-905 victory over Wright State. Junior Alli Eible (Burton, Mich./Kearsley) led the way with the day’s high game, rolling a 239, while Struble set a season best with a 227 and Patz added a 202 game.
  • Patz recorded Valpo’s best individual scoring average on Saturday, posting a 193.2 over her five games.
  • Valpo closed the day in 12th place out of the 20 competing teams, tallying 8,844 pins through the first two days of action.
