Bowling Closes Music City Classic with Another Winning Day

The #17 Valpo bowling team finished up the Vanderbilt Music City Classic in Smyrna, Tenn. and the regular season on Sunday, going 2-1 in bracket play.

How It Happened

  • Valpo opened bracket action, contested in the best-of-seven baker format, against Wright State. The Beacons spotted the Raiders the first two games before coming back to take games three and four.
  • WSU went up 3-2 in the match with a game five win, but Valpo rebounded with a 207-202 win in game six to force the decisive seventh game and then easily claimed the finale to earn the 4-3 match win.
  • With the victory, Valpo advanced up in the bracket to take on Emmanuel. A 200 effort in game one got the match started on the right note, as the Beacons won each of the first two games.
  • Valpo posted a 217 in game three, but it wasn’t enough to keep Emmanuel from getting on the board with the game win. The Beacons bounced back to win game four and then closed out a 4-1 victory with their best single-game score of the day, a 235.
  • Valpo moved into the 19th-place match against Marian, where the Beacons quickly fell behind, 3-0. They started working their way back with a 202 in game four, and then earned comfortable wins in games five and six to tie the match at 3-3 before falling in the finale.
