Bowling Earns Three More Wins Saturday

The Valpo bowling team picked up three more victories on Saturday as the Beacons continued hosting the Valpo Bowling Classic at Stardust Bowl III in Dyer, Ind.

How It Happened

  • Bowling in the traditional team format on Saturday, Valpo opened the day falling to #20 UW-Whitewater, 962-929. Junior Lilu Smith (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) led the Beacons in the opener with a 209 game.
  • Valpo rebounded from the defeat by edging out #13 Newman by a 914-912 final. Sophomore Jen Patz (Naples, Fla./Naples) led the way in the victory with a 198, backed up by a 192 from freshman Payton Rowley (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville).
  • The Beacons earned an 874-829 win over #RV Lewis in the third match slot, as Patz paced the team for a second straight match with a 203 game.
  • Valpo’s next match was an 879-825 defeat against #14 McKendree. Junior Alli Eible (Burton, Mich./Kearsley) had the team’s top score in that match with a 189.
  • Smith rolled the high game for a Valpo bowler on Saturday in the day’s final match, putting a 224 on the monitor to lead the way in an 808-653 victory over Dominican.
  • Valpo closed the day in seventh place out of 17 competing teams with a total pinfall of 8,892 pins, just 83 pins out of fifth place. Smith posted the team’s top average on Saturday, recording a 186.6 average over the five matches.
  • #9 Maryville sits atop the team standings through two days of action.

Next Up

Valpo (15-7) concludes hosting its annual home tournament on Sunday morning, beginning just after 8:30 a.m. Sunday’s action will feature bracket competition in the best-of-seven baker format.
