Bowling Concludes Flyer Classic in Tenth Place

The Valpo bowling team concluded the Flyer Classic in Lockport, Ill. on Sunday with bracket competition, finishing the tournament in tenth place. Sophomore Alli Eible (Burton, Mich./Kearsley) was named to the All-Tournament Team after placing in the top-five of individual action.

How It Happened

  • Valpo opened bracket play, contested in the best-of-seven baker format, against Carthage. The two teams split the first three games with a draw and one win apiece, but Carthage took the next three in a row to earn the 4-1-1 match victory.
  • The loss dropped the Beacons into a matchup with Kentucky Wesleyan, where the opponents took the first two games. Valpo claimed game three, but KWU came back to win game four to go up 3-1 in the match. But the Beacons stormed back with a 195-185 win in game five and a 203-201 squeaker in game six, and Valpo cruised to a game seven win to complete the comeback for the 4-3 match win.
  • Valpo’s final bracket match pitted the Beacons against #RV Marian. Marian won the first two games, but after a 191-191 draw in game three, the Beacons won three in a row to pull ahead going into the final match. But Marian won game seven 206-191 to make it a 3-3-1 tie, and in the modified baker format tiebreaker, Marian came away 97-83 victors to drop Valpo into 10th place in the final standings.
