The #RV Valpo bowling team opened its traditional trip to Nebraska’s Big Red Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. on Friday with the first of three days of tournament action.

How It Happened

• Making its 13^th appearance at the Big Red Invitational in the 14 seasons of the program’s existence, Valpo opened action on Friday against #7 Youngstown State, falling 993-946 to the Penguins in five-game baker competition.
• Despite averaging better than 200 per game in their next match, the Beacons dropped a 1089-1020 decision to #13 Newman.
• A third straight nationally-ranked opponent dealt Valpo a defeat in the third match slot of the day, as #4 Arkansas State earned a 1037-975 win.
• The Beacons got in the win column in the fourth match slot, downing Upper Iowa, 930-898.
• Valpo made it back-to-back victories to close the first day of competition, taking down #17 Central Missouri by a 1039-925 final.
• Valpo ended the day in seventh place in the team standings, just 67 pins behind Youngstown State in sixth place.
