Valpo Bowling to Compete on Big Ten Network Feb. 27

The Valpo bowling program will appear on national television for the first time in program history on Sunday, Feb. 27, as the Beacons take on Nebraska in the final match of the Big Red Invitational live on the Big Ten Network.

The broadcast, slated for 11 a.m. on the 27th, is the first bowling broadcast in Big Ten Network history. The match between the Beacons and the Cornhuskers will be contested in the best-of-seven baker format.

“We are honored to take part in the Big Ten Network's first telecast showcasing NCAA Women's Bowling,” Valpo head coach Shon Washington said. “I'm very thankful to the Big Ten Network and the University of Nebraska Lincoln for this tremendous opportunity. To say that my team is excited for this event would be an understatement. It's not often, outside of the National Championship telecast, that you have an opportunity to compete in the sport you love in front of a national audience.”

Valpo carries momentum into the Big Red Invitational, coming off top-three finishes in each of its last two events — including a tournament title at the Peacocks Classic last month. The three-day tournament will begin on Friday, Feb. 25.

“I have noticed a little extra excitement at practice in preparation for the Big Red Invite,” Washington said. “I hope we can carry this momentum throughout the remainder of the regular season and into the Southland Bowling League Championship.”
