Washington, Bartholomew Earn PFL Player of the Week Recognition
Robert Washington had Valpo's highest single-game rushing output since 2012 on Saturday.

Following a record-filled 65-55 victory over Presbyterian on Saturday, the Valparaiso University football team received no shortage of recognition on Sunday.

Running back Robert Washington (Huntersville, N.C. / East Gaston [Old Dominion]) was named the Pioneer Football League Offensive Player of the Week by both the league office and College Sports Madness. In addition, kicker Brian Bartholomew (Sugar Grove, Ill. / Kaneland) was tabbed the league’s Special Teams Player of the Week.

Washington also received national recognition for his performance on Saturday by earning a “Helmet Sticker” on ESPN’s College Football Final. That came after his career-high 234 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns in the victory over the Blue Hose. He became the PFL’s first 200-yard rusher since 2019 and turned in Valpo’s highest single-game rushing output since Jake Hutson’s 248 on Nov. 2, 2012 at Campbell.

Washington finished with the fifth-highest single-game rushing total in Division-I FCS this season and accrued 282 all-purpose yards. His efforts helped Valpo shatter the team program record for single-game rushing TDs with eight. He now ranks second on Valpo’s single-season rushing TD list with 11 and has cracked the program’s top five for single-season rushing yards with 844.

Bartholomew made eight PATs to break a single-game program record of seven that was set in 1984 and matched six times since. He is 24-for-24 on PATs this season and 37-for-37 in his career. The program record for consecutive PATs without a miss is 49 by Kevin Mackey from 1983-1985. Bartholomew is also six away from cracking the single-season top five.

The Beacons (3-6, 3-3 PFL) will be back in action on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT / noon ET at Butler for the annual Hoosier Helmet rivalry game.
