Valparaiso junior forward Ryan Broekhoff (Frankston, Victoria, Australia/Australian Institute of Sport) is one of 25 players on the 2012 Australian Boomers basketball squad, as named earlier this week by Basketball Australia. With his selection, Broekhoff will have a chance to earn a spot on Australia’s team for the 2012 Olympic Games, as the 12-player Olympic roster will be comprised of players from the Boomers squad.

Valparaiso men’s basketball head coach Bryce Drew announced today that sophomore guard Jay Harris has been granted a release from his commitment to the Crusader men’s basketball program and will be transferring.

Valparaiso men’s basketball head coach Bryce Drew announced today that two transfer guards have committed to join the Crusader men’s basketball program for the 2012-2013 season. LaVonte Dority (Chicago, Ill./Edwin G. Foreman) played one and a half seasons at the University of South Florida, while Jordan Coleman (North Hollywood, Calif./Calabasas) began his collegiate career at the University of Hawai’i and spent last season playing at Southwestern Illinois College.

Valparaiso University director of athletics Mark LaBarbera announced today that Crusader men’s basketball head coach Bryce Drew has agreed to a multi-year contract extension to continue his tenure as head coach of the Valpo men’s basketball program.

Valparaiso men’s basketball head coach Bryce Drew announced today that Hrvoje Vucic has asked for and been granted a release from his commitment to the Valpo basketball program, and that Richie Edwards has been granted a release from his commitment for family reasons. Both players will be transferring.

Valparaiso junior forward Ryan Broekhoff (Frankston, Victoria, Australia/Australian Institute of Sport) was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the Associated Press on Monday. Broekhoff becomes just the fourth Crusader in Valpo’s Division I era to earn All-American honors on the hardwood.

Playing its first-round NIT game with just a six-man rotation, seventh-seeded Valparaiso played right with second-seeded Miami for 36 minutes before the Hurricanes closed out the game with 12 straight points, as the Crusaders fell 66-50 Wednesday evening in Coral Gables, Fla. Valpo’s season ends with a 22-12 overall record and the program’s first Horizon League regular season championship.

Valparaiso takes to the postseason for the 11th time in the last 17 seasons, as the Crusaders travel to Coral Gables, Fla. as a seventh seed in the 2012 National Invitation Tournament to take on second-seeded Miami out of the ACC. It marks Valpo’s second all-time appearance in the postseason NIT, as the Crusaders also earned an NIT berth in 2003. The game can be seen live Wednesday night at 6:30pm CDT on ESPNU.
