In its third season of intercollegiate competition, the Valparaiso bowling program makes its first trip to the NCAA Championship, as the Crusaders hit the road today as one of eight squads selected to compete for the 2012 national title April 12-14 in Wickliffe, Ohio.

A journey which began in February 2009 with the introduction of the women’s bowling program to the Valparaiso University athletics department took a giant step forward on Wednesday, as the Crusaders learned they were one of eight programs selected to compete at the 2012 NCAA Women’s Bowling Championship in Wickliffe, Ohio on April 12-14. The bid is Valpo’s first to the national championship in just the third year of program existence.

#6 Valparaiso closed out the Music City Classic, its final tournament before the 2012 NCAA Bowling Championships, in eighth place on Sunday in Nashville, Tenn. Senior Natalie Cortese (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates [Central Missouri]) earned one of six spots on the All-Tournament Team.

#2 Valparaiso split a pair of matches in bracket play Sunday at the Holiday Classic in Bessemer, Ala., finishing the tournament in fifth place. Senior Amanda Cortese (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) was one of five bowlers named to the All-Tournament Team.
