Academic Support and Student Services
Academic Support and Student Services staff provide a range of services to Valpo student-athletes:
Student-Athlete Study Hall
Student-Athlete study hall is required for various student-athletes, depending on their class standing and/or GPA. Study hall hours can be logged in the Athletics Recreation Center Student-Athlete Lounge, Monday through Friday between 9:00am – 5:00pm and/or in the Christopher Center Library, Sunday through Thursday between 6:00pm – 9:00pm. Required study hall hours for incoming freshmen and transfers in their first semester are based on a sliding scale. The student-athlete’s core GPA from high school along with his/her ACT/SAT test score or current GPA will be reviewed to determine the number of hours the student will be required to attend each week. New student-athletes will be placed in either 8, 6 or 4 hours of study hall depending on their core GPA and ACT/SAT scores.
The Peer Tutoring Program is a student-tutor match program that offers free course-specific tutoring in many 100 and 200 level courses, mostly in math, science and nursing courses. The program runs during the fall and spring semesters and delivers tutoring through weekly individual and small group sessions held inside the ASC’s tutoring center located in the Christopher Center Library.
SI is a series of weekly collaborative review sessions led by an experienced Valpo student (SI Leader) for students taking BIO 151/152/171/172 & CHEM 111/121/122. After completing training in August, the SI Leader attends classes, meets with the instructor, and leads structured review sessions every week throughout the fall and spring semesters. The SI program provides students with a welcoming and supportive peer-to-peer learning environment where they can review the complex material they are learning in entry-level biology and chemistry courses.
