The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s cross country teams have garnered recognition from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for their success in the classroom this year.
The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in their final race of the 2019 campaign Friday in Madison, Wis. at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. Dominic Paoletti (Monroe, Mich./ Monroe St. Mary), Jack Worman (Hanover Parks, Ill./ Hoffman Estates) and Ignacio Veloz Bonilla (San Juan, P.R./ American Military Academy) joined Alexander Bruno (Bloomington, Ill./ University) on the list of the program’s best 10K times.
After a strong showing at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships, the Valparaiso University men’s and women’s cross country teams will head to Madison, Wis. to compete in Friday’s NCAA Great Lakes Regional.
Valparaiso University cross country standout Alexander Bruno (Bloomington, Ill./ University) was one 12 runners named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete team this week.
The Missouri Valley Conference men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Valparaiso on Saturday for the MVC Championship. Nine men’s teams and 10 women’s teams faced chilly temperatures and a muddy course to compete for the conference title at Sunset Hill Farm County Park. The Valpo men were led by Alexander Bruno (Bloomington, Ill./ University) and Dominic Paoletti (Monroe, Mich./ Monroe St. Mary), both of whom earned all-conference recognition. As a team, the Valpo men turned in their first Top 5 finish in the team standings at a conference meet since 2007, continuing a strong season for head coach Mike Straubel’s team.
After Valparaiso University hosted its first championship event as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference with women’s golf last spring, it’s time for cross country to take center stage with the 2019 MVC Championships coming soon to Northwest Indiana.
For the first time in program history, the Valparaiso University men’s cross country team is regionally ranked.

Alexander Bruno (Bloomington, Ill. / University) and Katherine Germann (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Finneytown) led their squads in the final push before the conference championships. In addition, Dominic Paoletti (Monroe, Mich. / Monroe St. Mary) cracked the program’s all-time Top 5 in the 8K.
