Valpo Football Announces Team Awards for Week 6

The Valparaiso University football program has announced its team award winners for this week after a 41-21 road win at Presbyterian on Saturday.

The team has recognized fifth-year senior running back Aaron Dawson (Westbury, N.Y. / W.T. Clarke / Milford Prep [Central Connecticut]) as Offensive Player of the Week, fifth-year senior defensive back Kohlton Sherman (Millington, Mich. / Millington) as Defensive Player of the Week and junior return specialist Chuck Maxwell (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Christian Academy) as Special Teams Player of the Week.

The Beacons have also tabbed the following Scout Team Players of the Week – redshirt sophomore running back Darius Lane (Stephens City, Va. / Sherando) on offense, freshman defensive back Andy Cole (North Bend. / Wash. / Mount Si) on defense and freshman tight end Max Carter (Camarillo, Calif. / Adolfo Camarillo) on Special Teams.

Sherman had three tackles including his third career sack plus a pass breakup in the win over the Blue Hose. Dawson ran for a season-high 163 yards on 23 carries and rushed for a pair of touchdowns. Maxwell had a 29-yard kickoff return.

Valpo will host the Hoosier Helmet rivalry game this week beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Brown Field.
