Valpo Football Announces Team Awards for Week 8

The Valparaiso University football program has announced its team awards for Week 8, a 40-35 victory at Morehead State that represented the program’s first win in Morehead, Ky. since 2006 and helped the team improve its Pioneer Football League record to 3-1.

Fifth year senior running back Aaron Dawson (Westbury, N.Y. / W.T. Clarke / Milford Prep [Central Connecticut]) was named the team’s Offensive Player of the Week, while redshirt senior kicker Brian Bartholomew (Sugar Grove, Ill. / Kaneland) was named the team’s Special Teams Player of the Week and freshman defensive lineman Logan Chastain (Clackamas, Ore. / Clackamas) earned team Defensive Player of the Week status.

In addition, the team has announced the following Scout Team Players of the Week – redshirt junior quarterback Teryn Berry (Redmond, Wash. / Redmond [Weber State]) on offense, freshman defensive lineman Niko Paic (Crown Point, Ind. / Crown Point) on defense and freshman defensive back Frank Bartell (Park Ridge, Ill. / Maine South) on special teams.

Dawson, also recognized as the PFL Offensive Player of the Week, rushed for 241 yards, the highest single-game rushing effort by a Valpo player since 2012 and just 12 yards shy of the program’s single-game record. He had touchdown runs of 45 and 28 yards, the latter of which came with 5:37 remaining and proved to be the game-winning score.

Bartholomew, also the PFL Special Teams Player of the Week, was 4-for-4 on PATs and 2-for-2 on field goals, accounting for 10 points in the eventual five-point victory. He drilled field goals from 26 and 48 yards and saw two of his eight kickoffs go for touchbacks. The senior’s perfect performance was a redemption effort after he had a rare off week in the previous week’s one-point loss to Butler. This marks the second time this season and third time in his career that Bartholomew has won the PFL Special Teams Player of the Week award.

The Beacons will be back in action on Saturday at Dayton for a game that begins at noon Central Time.
