The Valparaiso University football program has announced its team awards for Week 11 following Saturday’s 45-24 road win at Marist in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Fifth-year senior running back Aaron Dawson (Westbury, N.Y. / W.T. Clarke / Milford Prep [Central Connecticut]) has been named the team’s Offensive Player of the Week, while fifth-year senior defensive back Kohlton Sherman (Millington, Mich. / Millington) was tabbed the squad’s Defensive Player of the Week. In addition, redshirt freshman long snapper Kevin Spelman (New Lenox, Ill. / Providence Catholic) received team Special Teams Player of the Week recognition.

The Beacons also recognized the following Scout Team Players of the Week – redshirt freshman offensive lineman Daniel Ojaide (Charlotte, N.C. / North Mecklenburg) on offense, freshman defensive lineman Matt Molnar (Avon Lake, Ohio / Saint Edward) on defense and freshman tight end Devin Yeats (Hampshire, Ill. / Hampshire) on special teams.

Dawson was also named the PFL Offensive Player of the Week after his 199-yard rushing output in a game that took place in his home state of New York. He became the fourth player in program history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season, and climbed all the way to second on the program’s single-season rushing list. Dawson scored three touchdowns in the victory (two rushing, one receiving).

Sherman shattered a program record for longest interception return that had stood for 22 years with a 95-yard pick six in Saturday’s game, the fourth consecutive contest that he’s notched an interception. He also had a sack and 1.5 TFL.

Valpo will close out the season by hosting Drake at noon on Saturday at Brown Field.
