Valpo Football Announces Week 6 Team Awards

The Valparaiso University football program has announced its team awards for Week 6 of the season following this past weekend’s visit to Drake.

Sixth-year senior quarterback Jeffrey Jackson (San Diego, Calif. / Bishop’s [San Diego]) has been named the team’s Offensive Player of the Week, while redshirt junior defensive lineman Sam Hafner (Green Bay, Wis. / De Pere) was tabbed the team’s Defensive Player of the Week. The team has named redshirt junior Diego Del Castillo (Murrieta, Calif. / Rancho Verde) its Special Teams Player of the Week, and recognized junior Jimmy Pouba (Chicago, Ill. / Lyons [College of the Sequoias]) with its Hammer Hit.

In addition, the following players have earned Scout Team Player of the Week nods – redshirt freshman Alex Goworowski (Chicago, Ill. / Saint Patrick) on offense, redshirt freshman Justin Jurmu (Marquette, Mich. / Marquette) on defense and freshman Nick Beidl (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) on special teams.

Jackson came off the bench to help Valpo climb back into the game by tossing a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown passes, finding Solomon Davis for 33 yards and Moise Tezzo for 15 yards. Hafner was the team’s leading tackler with six stops including four solos while making one tackle for loss and recovering a fumble.

The Beacons will host Morehead State on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brown Field. It’s Beacon’s Birthday Party and All-Star Stunt Dogs will perform at halftime. For ticket information, visit valpoathletics.com/tickets.
