Valparaiso men’s basketball head coach Bryce Drew announced today that 7-0 center Moussa Gueye (Thies, Senegal/Alabama/Lake Land [Ill.] College) will join the Crusader program for the 2013-2014 season. Gueye graduated from Alabama this spring and will be immediately eligible at Valpo for his final season of eligibility.

For the second straight year, Valparaiso seniors Ryan Broekhoff (Frankston, Victoria, Australia/Australian Institute of Sport) and Kevin Van Wijk (Hoofddorp, Netherlands/Katholieke Scholengemeenschap Hoofddorp) have earned All-District 12 honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Broekhoff was a First Team selection this season after earning Second Team accolades last year, while Van Wijk repeated as a Second Team honoree.

The Valparaiso men’s basketball team was even with third-seeded Michigan State through nearly nine minutes of their Second Round game in the Midwest Region of the 2013 NCAA Tournament Thursday in Auburn Hills, Mich., but the Spartans went on a 24-4 run to pull away as the Crusaders eventually fell by a final score of 65-54. The loss ends the Crusaders’ season at 26-8 and ends the careers of six Valpo seniors.

Valparaiso makes its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2004, as the Crusaders are the 14th seed in the Midwest Region and will face third-seeded Michigan State Thursday at 11:15 a.m. CT in Auburn Hills, Mich. The game will be televised live nationwide on CBS and is the first game of the Second Round to tip off.

Fans can buy tickets to follow the Crusader men's basketball team to the NCAA Tournament in Auburn Hills today by calling the Valparaiso University Ticket Office at 219-464-6161 through 6 p.m. this evening. Students can buy tickets today at the Harre Union through 5 p.m.

Valparaiso and Michigan State will be the first game of the Second Round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament to tip off, as tip time from Auburn Hills is set for 12:15 p.m. ET/11:15 a.m. CT on Thursday. The game will be broadcast live in its entirety on CBS, with Verne Lundquist, Bill Raftery and Rachel Nichols on the call.
