The Valparaiso men’s basketball team learned Monday evening that it had earned a televised appearance in the 2012 Sears BracketBusters X event and will travel to the West Coast, as the Crusaders will face off against Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles, Calif. on Friday evening, Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. CT live on ESPNU.

Valparaiso rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit against Milwaukee and limited the Panthers to just11 points in the game’s final 17:30 as the Crusaders earned a hard-fought 55-52 victory Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee, Wis.

Valparaiso closes out a four-game road trip, its longest road swing of the season, Saturday afternoon in the Horizon League Network Game of the Week at Milwaukee, which can be seen locally on Comcast SportsNet Chicago. Both squads enter Saturday’s contest tied for second place in the league standings, just one-half game out of the league lead.

Junior Ben Boggs (Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley [Virginia Tech]) hit all five of his 3-point attempts en route to a career-best 17 points, but Valparaiso fell to Green Bay to start the second half of Horizon League play, 75-60, Thursday evening in Green Bay, Wis.

A fixture on the sidelines for more than two decades, Dr. Homer Drew led Valparaiso University to 371 victories and nine postseason appearances while at the helm of the Crusader basketball program, and on Saturday, February 4, he will be inducted into the Valparaiso University Athletics Hall of Fame.

Valparaiso looks to maintain its current run of form this Thursday evening as the Crusaders continue their four-game road trip at Green Bay. Valpo has won four straight games and six of its last seven to ascend into a tie for first place in the Horizon League standings at the halfway point of the league slate.

Juniors Ryan Broekhoff (Frankston, Victoria, Australia/Australian Institute of Sport) and Kevin Van Wijk (Hoofddorp, Netherlands/Katholieke Scholengemeenschap Hoofddorp) combined for all ten points in a 10-0 run that put Valparaiso up nine points with seven minutes to play, and the Crusaders would never trail again, eventually earning a 60-55 victory over UIC Saturday afternoon in Chicago. The win guarantees Valpo a share of first place in the Horizon League standings at the halfway point of the league schedule.

Coming off their biggest road win in nearly 12 years, Valparaiso looks for its fourth consecutive victory as the Crusaders aim for a sweep of the Chicago road trip against UIC at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
