‘A Day at Brown Field’ to Feature Men’s Basketball Open Practice, Football vs. Morehead State

The Valparaiso University Department of Athletics has announced details for an action-packed day of festivities on Saturday, Oct. 14, an event dubbed “A Day at Brown Field.”

Fans will have an opportunity to get an early look at the basketball Beacons under the direction of first-year head coach Roger Powell Jr. as the team’s new-look roster will be on display during “Men’s Basketball Kickoff,” which will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. inside the Athletics-Recreation Center. The event is free and open to the public with no ticket required. Doors will open at 10 a.m. In addition to seeing the squad on the court, fans will have opportunities to meet players and coaches and receive photos and autographs.

It’s never too early to start the party, so the Community Tailgate Lot near Brown Field will open early on Oct. 14 with a 9:30 a.m. start time. The tailgate lot will feature two bounce houses and food trucks – G’s Dogs and Chunky’s Tacos. The Community Tailgate Lot is located on the former hospital grounds, which are northwest of Brown Field. The early start time will allow fans to begin their gameday tailgate before making their way to the “Men’s Basketball Kickoff” and then returning to the tailgate area after enjoying a preview of what to expect this winter on the hardwood.

The fun continues when the football team kicks off a Pioneer Football League showdown with Morehead State at 1 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person, and children 10 and under are free with no ticket required. This game is Beacon’s Birthday Party, a family-friendly celebration of Valpo’s furry mascot, Beacon. Pregame photos will be available with Valpo’s kid-friendly mascot duo, Beacon and Blaze. Plus, the All-Star Stunt Dogs will have a “pawtastic” display of pure fun during a halftime show that you won’t want to miss.
