Delisanti Named MVC Golfer of the Week

Valparaiso University men’s golf freshman Anthony Delisanti (Sanborn, N.Y. / Niagara Wheatfield) was tabbed the Missouri Valley Conference co-Golfer of the Week by the league office on Wednesday, sharing the award with Matthis Besard of Southern Illinois.

Anthony Delisanti tied for first in a 98-player field at this week’s Butler Spring Invitational, battling through frigid weather conditions to lead the Beacons to the team title in the 12-team event. It marked Valpo’s fifth top-2 finish of the year but the team’s first tournament title.

Delisanti carded a 139 (-1, 68-71) in a tournament that was shortened to 36 holes due to cold at the par-70, 6551-yard Highland Golf and Country Club in Indianapolis. Delisanti produced the third-best 36-hole tournament score in program history and earned his highest collegiate finish at t-1. His 68 in Round 1 represented the best 18-hole score of his young career. Delisanti eagled the par-5 12th hole in Monday’s first round, one of only two eagles in the entire tournament.

This marks the second straight week Valpo has earned the MVC Golfer of the Week as Yianni Kostouros received the honor last week. Three different Beacons have been named MVC Golfers of the Week in the month of March alone, as Caleb VanArragon earned the distinction on March 4. In total, members of the Valpo men’s golf program have won seven weekly awards this season.

After a few weeks without competition, the Beacons will return to the links on Sunday, April 17 to begin the Wright State Invitational, the final tournament prior to the MVC Championship.
