VanArragon Continues to Rack Up MVC Golfer of the Week Awards

Valparaiso University fifth-year senior Caleb VanArragon (Blaine, Minn. / Blaine) achieved another Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week award on Friday, this time after finishing as the runner-up in the 100-player Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate.

VanArragon posted a 36-hole score of 137 (-7), one stroke behind Richmond’s Cole Ekert for the top spot in a 100-player field at the event, hosted at the par-72, 6940-yard True Blue Golf Course in Pawleys Island, S.C. He had the second-best 36-hole tournament score in program history both overall and in relation to par, behind only Anthony Delisanti from this year’s Dorado Beach Collegiate. The event was shortened to 36 holes since the final round was rained out.

This marked VanArragon’s 16th career top-2 finish, 24th career top-5 finish and 34th career top-10 finish. VanArragon’s efforts helped Valpo tie for second in a 19-team field. He carded a 66 in Monday’s opening round before notching a 71 on Tuesday. He drained 10 birdies, tied for the second most in the event.

This marked the fifth time in eight tournaments this season that VanArragon has been either the individual medalist or runner-up. Valpo has achieved MVC Golfer of the Week status following each of its first four spring tournaments as junior Anthony Delisanti (Sanborn, N.Y. / Niagara Wheatfield) won the award on Feb. 29 and VanArragon has now won the award after each of the last three events.

VanArragon has been named the MVC Golfer of the Week a league-record 18 times in his collegiate career. Valpo has boasted the MVC Golfer of the Week after seven of the team’s eight tournaments this season, with Delisanti winning twice and this marking VanArragon’s fifth honor in 2023-24.

The Beacons will be back on the course on Saturday to begin the Hoosier Collegiate in Bloomington, Ind. A link to live scoring via GolfStat is available on ValpoAthletics.com.
