David Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) won the 400 individual medley for Valparaiso’s lone event victory on Saturday morning as Wright State defeated the Crusaders 164-40 in the Brown and Gold’s home opener at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.
Sivak cruised to a win in the 400 IM with a time of with a time of 4:19.76, winning the event by more than six seconds.
Blake Edwards (Orange, Calif./Lutheran H.S. of Orange County placed third for the Crusaders in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:42.56 while Kevin Fedde (Fort Collins, Colo./Heritage Christian H.S.) earned the same place in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.68. Fedde was also third in the 500 free, finishing in 5:05.29.
Austin Hunter (La Crescent, Minn./ La Crescent H.S.) finished third in the 50 free, touching the wall in 22.18 seconds while also earning the same finish in the 100 butterfly with a mark of 54.91 seconds.
Andrew Hipskind (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine H.S.) added a top-three finish in the 100 backstroke, placing third in 1:04.75. Trevor Trimpe (New Palestine, Ind./Connersville H.S.) earned Valpo’s final top-three finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.44.
Valparaiso (0-1) will return to action on November 14 with a quadrangular meet in Cleveland, Ohio. The Crusaders will face Niagara, Saint Bonaventure, and host Cleveland State beginning at 12 p.m. CST.
