Valpo sophomore Jackson Oostman (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) was recognized as the Mid-American Conference Co-Swimmer of the Week on Wednesday after recording four individual event wins last weekend to lead the Beacons to a 2-1 record.

Oostman opened last weekend against Rose-Hulman by winning all three of his individual swims against the Fightin’ Engineers, touching the wall first in the 100 back, the 200 back and the 400 IM. The sophomore also swam the leadoff leg of the Beacons’ winning 200 medley relay.

Oostman came back on Saturday to help Valpo to a split of a double dual, as the Beacons defeated host Wabash and fell to reigning D-II national champion UIndy. Oostman won the 200 IM for his fourth individual win of the weekend. He also swam the leadoff leg for Valpo’s second-place 400 medley relay squad.

In just his second season at Valpo, Oostman earned Swimmer of the Week accolades from the MAC for the third time. Oostman and the rest of the Beacons return to the pool on Friday, Jan. 26 when they host their Senior Meet at the Valparaiso Aquatic Center against Bethel.
