Valparaiso University sophomore Mike Shideler (Valparaiso, Ind./Munster H.S.) was named the Mid-Continent Conference Athlete of the Week after combining to go 4-2 in singles and doubles on the weekend at the Bradley Invitational.

Shideler teamed with Nic Kooyers at first doubles to record an 8-5 win against Toledo and an 8-3 victory over UMKC. The duo dropped a tight 9-7 decision against Southern Illinois.

In singles play, Shideler was a straight sets winner against Illinois-Chicago 6-4, 7-6 (5) and DePaul 7-5, 6-3. His only defeat came at the hands of an opponent from Southern Illinois 6-2, 6-3.

For Shideler, it is the first time in his career he has earned Athlete of the Week honors.
