The Valpo men's tennis team recorded a convincing 5-2 win over Toledo Saturday afternoon at The Courts of NWI. Jeffrey Schorsch (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg), Chad Kissell (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe), Charlie Emhardt (Carmel, Ind./Carmel), and Garrett Gardner (Poland, Ohio/Poland) all notched singles victories at their respective flights. Meanwhile, the Crusaders received wins from the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in doubles to seize the opening point.

The Brown and Gold got off on the right foot thanks to Dave Bacalla (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) and Lucas Waak (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli)'s 6-3 triumph at No. 2 doubles. Toledo's No. 1 tandem of Omar Espinosa and Stjepan Sisko grinded out a 6-3 victory over #33 Schorsch and Emhardt to apply pressure to the No. 3 tilt. Kissell and Kyle Dunn (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) rose to the occasion, dispatching Vince Anzalone/Serjen Olmedo, 6-4.

Valpo secured the all-important fourth point before surrendering a flight.

Schorsch rolled to a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Sisko atop singles play. Kissell followed suit with a quick 6-1, 6-0 win versus Espinosa at No. 3.

Emhardt made quick work of Anzalone at No. 4. The junior picked up his fifth win of the season following a 6-3, 6-1 affair. Olmedo got Toledo on the scoreboard thanks to a 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 defeat of Dunn at No. 5. Gardner and Reid Teatsworth went back-and-forth before the Crusader sophomore emerged with a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

Luka Vitosevic and Dave Bacalla engaged in a fierce battle at No. 2 singles as both sets required a tiebreaker. Vitosevic prevailed 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5) in a lengthy duel.

Valpo (1-1) will travel to Madison next Saturday to face Big Ten foe Wisconsin at 12 pm CT. The Badgers are 1-0 after handing NIU a 5-2 loss Friday evening.
